From December 1862 to February 1863, Hector, Patterson, Granville, Harrison, Jim 1st, John, and Jim 2nd all labored for 60 days at a pay rate of $16.00 per month. Their enslaver, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Watts, received $216.53 for the work completed by all of them.
In IAS Book 4, the partition of the lands and other property of Edward Watts, Harrison is listed among the enslaved individuals that were bequeathed to Mrs. Carr. A value of $2000.00 was placed on Harrison.
Ben and Anderson both labored for 62 days at a pay rate of $20.00 per month. Their enslavers, Hannah and Rennick, received $82.66 for the work completed by them.

The Requisition Record shows that Granville was forced to labor in Richmond in response to the impressment order. Dennis, Carter, and Granville all labored for 60 days at a pay rate of $16.00 per month. Their enslaver, David Read, received $96.00 for the work completed by them.

The Requisition Record shows that John H. Smith forced George to labor in Richmond in response to the impressment order. George labored for 62 days at a pay rate of $20.00 per month. J. H. Smith, received $41.33 for the work he completed.
In December 1862 to January/February 1863, George labored for 60 days at a pay rate of $16.00 per month. His enslaver, C. R. Campbell, received $32.00 for the work he completed.
Maria, Patience, Amelia, William, Henry, Blanch, Priscilla, Harriett, Peggy, James, and Mary were all bequeathed to Frances Deaton's husband, according to her will. They were "to be hired out to others to pay off the Deaton family's debt of $650," at least $500.00 of which was due to John Foster, and "the enslaved individuals are to be freed after" the debt was paid. After this debt was paid, they were to be hired out raise $650.00 for Deatin's children.
Once freed they were to be set up with jobs locally and able to keep their earnings, living on the family land until they had enough funds to relocate to a free state. They had the option to decline this offer and pick another "master" or "mistress." Though the wording may have seemed simple, the process for the manumission of enslaved individuals was a more complicated process.
