Lucy McClanahan's will dictated no married couples or families were to be split, and that their personal wishes be respected.

McClanahan's will asked her executors to retain a sufficient amount of money to support her eldest servants, Nelson and Milly, in their remaining years.

Her will also requested that a woman, Ellen and her children, be sold to Henry Hurt to unite her with her husband currently on the Hurt Land.
