- Joshua Burnett's will, found in IAS Book 2, states that his wife would inherit the plantation in Mason Cove along with "all my personal property of every description including my negroes." One half of his personal property would go directly to his wife Sarah while the other half would be divided between his daughters and his granddaughter.
- Joshua Burnett's will stipulated that the enslaved people are to be sold according to evaluation, but half of them are to go to his wife.
- According to a division of those enslaved by Barnett in IAS Book 2, March Morris was bequeathed to Jane Smelser, Adeline and Robert Henry were bequeathed to Nancy Jane Leonard, and Mahala Robertson were bequeathed Mary Jane and James Pleasant.
- In IAS Book 2, the following enslaved people were grouped together in "Lot 1" and then bequeathed to the heirs of Joshua Burnett: March Morris, Mary Jane, Adeline, Robert Henry, and James Pleasant. The following enslaved people were then grouped separately into "Lot 2," who are implied to have remained with the estate of Sarah Burnett: John, Maria, Francis, Ann Eliza, and John Mark.
- In IAS Book 3 it is recorded that Joshua left much of his property and money to his wife Sarah.
