William R. Johnson enslaved a man named Charles, who was charged with the assault of John Richardson. Charles was said to have beaten Richardson with the intent to kill, and he was remanded to jail.
Bartlett was listed in the register as having a "black complexion" and a scar on his left forefinger. He was 5 feet 9 inches tall. In Common Law Book E, his appearance was described in the same manner.
In the first IAS Book 1 appraisement, a value of $25.00 was placed on Barnett; this value could indicate that Barnett was disabled, ill, or elderly. This is confirmed by the appraisement in IAS Book 1 on page 210 in which Betty and Barnett are grouped together "taken for nothing," by B. Craig.
