In the sale bill dated December 9, 1848 it was said that Priscilla should remain "in possession" of Frances Deatin's husband John. Mariah and the other enslaved people valued alongside her were "to be hired out for a term of years until their hire shall pay of debt due to the estate of John Foster decd. amounting to five hundred dollars more or less."
In the Requisition Records, court-appointed agents assessed Preston with a value of $3000.00 (CSD). The records also show that G. W. Shanks forced Preston to labor in Richmond in response to the impressment order.
In Common Law Book D, Powell Huff along with Bernard Pitzer, William C. Williams, and George W. Shanks, was reported as having "assessed" Peggy Jane, Mary, Paulina, Edmund, Ellen, Simon, and Robert as part of William Lewis's estate.
